Course content
|
The course aims to upgrade students´ command of English pronunciation and to raise their awareness of theoretical issues such as model accents of English, different transcription systems and pronouncing dictionaries, and differences between the Czech and British inventory of segmental and suprasegmental features.

Learning outcomes
|
During the introductory contact sessions, students acquire the basic phonetics and phonology terminology, learn to understand the most essential differences between English and pronunciation and practise transcription using IPA. Independent study of e-learning texts is an intergral part of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Oral exam, Student performance, Analysis of linguistic, Analyssis of the Student's Portfolio
Credit requirements: - to attend at least 75% of lessons(although some exceptions are negotiable with the course teacher under some circumstances). - to do online coursework regularly throughout the course. - to participate actively in lessons. - to prepare for each lesson, do all assigned work - both oral and written - on time. - to pass an end-of-the-term written test (70% passing line) Exam requirements: - to read aloud a short English text - to answer questions related to specific pronunciation issues in the given text Students are entitled to retake both the credit test and the examination twice.
