This course explores contemporary fiction, poetry and drama in the United States and the latest trends and developments. Examining the works of influential writers and playwrights its attention is also aimed at the ethnic literatures and the works that stand aside from the main-stream culture. The goal of this course is to enhance students' ability to read critically and to place literary works in the historical and cultural contexts. The course is a suitable complement to the courses of "American literature" (AMLI1 and AMLI2) since it offers an extended view on the contemporary American literature.
