Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to explain the social determinants of health and disease in a national and international context, using interactive group teaching methods, to show the importance of demographic indicators for assessing the health status of the population; to emphasize the importance of the social responsibility of medicine, including the accentuation of basic ethical principles; to become familiar with general ethical dilemmas in medicine and specifically practice ethically questionable situations of contemporary medicine (at the beginning of life and in relation to children; in relation to the elderly and other ethical groups; in relation to persons with disabilities) using the Four boxes method, story-telling, CBL (Case Based Learning) and PBL (Problem Based Learning). Finally, students have the opportunity to try the world-famous test of moral competence according to prof. Lind.
After passing the subject, the student will be able to implement the knowledge about economical, systematical and epidemiological aspects of health and illness into the process of providing health care. The student should also be able to orientate himself in the special areas of medical ethics and his approach to the patients should be based on basic moral principles and standards.
