Course content
|
Acquainting with the etiquette in everyday life and on campus. Supporting of internalization of ethical values in interactive relationships. Adoption of basic elements of verbal and nonverbal communication, especially in the first contact with a patient. Recognition of ethical and communication variability in medicine. Positive self-evaluation and sensing the human dignity. Communication with patients with special needs. Principles of social and professional communication - including an explanation of Kűbler-Ross model.

Learning outcomes
|
Content of this subject is: a) to introduce to the students the basic principles of oral communication, including formal written communication formalities, to teach students how to address health professionals working in the health care system by their titles as stated in the university law; b) to practice the principles of good behaviour, assertive approach in health care, familiarize with different types of people seeking health care, including multicultural aspects; c) to describe the historical development of medicine in an ethical context, including the explanation of symbols in medicine as well as detailed information on life and work of physician Hippocrates, including his ethical oath, and to show the development of ethical principles and explain their importance for communication in current professional medical practice.
The student will be more sensitive to ethical topics and situations in medicine. He will get acquainted with basic communication skills necessary for professional sphere.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Seminar Work
1. Practical Requirements: - Development of a power-point presentation on a certain topic and presentation of the slides in front of the colleagues in a class, followed by a short discussion, including teacher´s feedback. - Ability to provide own opinion on given topic. - Ability to apply various communication skills in different situations. - Ability to use basic ethical principles when communicating with patients with a special focus on patients with special needs. 2. Colloquium a) students are asked to explain which of the topics they found most important for himself and which topic that was not part of the lessons he would have liked to participate in, b) students are asked to give their opinion about how they liked the team work, how they felt in the team, c) teachers provide the feedback.
