Learning outcomes |
The subject of Mental Health Care for Medical Students is based on the practical need to acquire basic skills related to the ability to handle the mentally challenging profession of doctor. These skills are already useful in managing demanding studies, especially in terms of time management, passing exams, and also when confronted with stress related to work in a helping profession. The emphasis is on evidence-based methods and interventions that improve mental health, promote psychological well-being and contribute to a successful life on a personal and social level. Students will practice several different relaxation, imagination and mindfulness techniques.
Students will learn the scientific foundation of mental health care related to the theory of stress as a risk factor threatening mental balance and the practical part will teach them the practical skills of coping with it. Students will understand the concepts related to mental health care, will be able to identify the impact of self-regulation of emotions, diet, optimistic attitude to life, and the ability to communicate effectively on human health. |

Sufficient level of personal maturity, knowledge of the preclinical disciplines.

Assessment methods and criteria |
Student performance, Dialog, Analyssis of the Student's Portfolio
In order to obtain a credit, students are expected to attend at least 75 % of the lessons, actively participate in discussion, self-study and do homeworks focused on creating own strategies for coping with stress related to the medical study. |
