Course content
|
Anatomy and physiology of the salivary glands. Inflammations, developmental disorders and injuries to the salivary glands. Tumours of the salivary glands. Diagnostics of salivary glands diseases (sialography, US, CT, MRI). Operations of great salivary glands. Anatomy and physiology of paranasal sinuses. Inflammations of paranasal sinuses and their complications. Injury to the paranasal sinuses and their complications. Diagnostics of paranasal sinuses (X-ray, CT, endoscopy). Surgery of paranasal sinuses. Inflammations of the pharyng and Waldeyer´s ring, their local and systemic complications (phlegmons, abscesses, necrotising fasciitis). Anatomy, pathology and surgery of the parapharyngeal space. Life threatening conditions in the ENT (suffocation, tracheobronchial and oesophageal foreign bodies, epistaxis). Diseases of the ear, differential diagnosis of otalgia.

Learning outcomes
|
The students will acquire basic knowledge in the symptomatology, diagnostics and therapy of all diseases and injuries in the field of otorhinolaryngology. They will be informed in detail about the diseases at the borders of stomatology and otorhinolaryngology.
With the education finished, the students will be capable of the differencial diagnosis of the diseases at the borders between stomatology and otorhinolaryngology. In addition, the students will be capable of giving first aid treatment in ORL life-threatening conditions, especially those related to the stomatology practice.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam
90% active attendance at practice. The examination covering 3 theoretical questions plus practical management of at least one clinical scenario.
