Course content
Definitions, selecting method of anesthesia. Planned and emergency procedures. General anesthesia (phases, stages of anesthesia, types of anesthesia), regional anesthesia (topical, infiltration, subarachnoid, epidural), pharmacology, further complications, contraindications. Treatment of pain and PONV (postoperative nausea and vomiting). Anesthesia workstation equipment, documentation in anesthesiology. Perioperative patient care with a focus on gynecological issues: preanesthetic management (anesthesiology outpatient, optimizing health condition, premedication) postanestetic care (PACU, ICU), one-day surgery. Specifics of anesthesia in gynecology (care of a patient with an associated disease specific surgical procedures in gynecology (diagnostic, therapeutic, laparoscopic surgery including robotic - their risks and complications). Anesthesia in Obstetrics (planned caesarean section, acute caesarean section, indications for caesarean section). Providing highly specialized midwifery care patient after abdominal surgery (laparoscopic surgery, after caesarean section), pain relief. Epidural analgesia and physiological differences in pregnancy. Anatomical and physiological differences in childhood. Anesthesia for the newborn.

Learning outcomes
Study discipline focuses on the basics of anesthesiology and pain management.
After completing the course, students will be able to implement acquired knowledge to prepare the patient for anesthesia and preanesthetic management. Students will acquire the knowledge of the basic anesthesiology techniques, airway management, basic pharmacotherapy. They will become familiar with the most common complications of perioperative period and during anesthesia and postanesthetic care. Special attention is given anesthesia procedures during pathological course of pregnancy and childbirth.
