Course content
Monitoring of vital signs and their evaluation, diagnostic methods and tests in intensive care. Securing the airway, oxygen therapy, ventilation, CRRT and non-invasive hemodynamics. Approaches to the bloodstream. Infusion therapy. Effective haemotherapy in intensive care. Implementation of parenteral nutrition and enteral nutrition. States of shock. Sepsis, SIRS. Multiorgan failure. Respiratory insufficiency. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Bronchial asthma, status asthmaticus. Acute intoxication. Polytrauma. Coagulation disorders. Nosocomial infections in intensive care and prevention. Wound healing. Comprehensive patient care in the IRP. Keeping documentation in the IRP. Caring for a patient in a coma. Basal stimulation. Rehabilitation. Ethical questions in intensive care. Current options for providing chronic resuscitation and intensive care. Extended cardiopulmonary resuscitation in children and adults, post-resuscitation care.

Learning outcomes
To provide introduction to intensive and resuscitation care i patients with vital function failure: monitoring, infusion therapy, nutrition, possibilities of organ replacement therapies. Special attention is paid to the conditions associated with pathological course of pregnancy and childbirth.
After completing the course, students will be able to implement acquired knowledge in diagnostics of basic life functions failure. Students will be familiar with the methods and procedures necessary in the treatment of patients in critical condition and with the most common causes of vital functions failure and their treatment.

80% attendance in the course, active participation in seminars, seminar work on the given topic, the success rate at the practical test, the success rate in final test
