The history of midwifery and obstetrics in antiquity, the Middle Ages and modern times in the world and here. Midwifery during the reign of Maria Theresa. Social status of grandmothers, business and other regulations. Midwifery today. Notable personalities of midwifery and obstetrics. Training midwives in babický schools. Training of midwives in the 20th century and in the present. Myths and superstitions in midwifery. Professional organization of midwives in the world and in the Czech Republic and their importance for midwives. Nursing in antiquity, the Middle Ages and modern times in the world and here. Establishment of the first of hospitals in the country. Nursing in the late 19th century, the establishment of nursing schools, the first nursing school in the Czech lands. Nursing education in the 20th century and in the present. A brief overview of the development of medicine from prehistoric times to the present. Some important persons.

Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces students to the historical development of midwifery, midwifery in present and in the world as well as important personalities of the field. It also deals with the development of education and the present state of education in midwifery. It outlines the history of medicine and nursing, and introduces important personalities in these areas. Part of the course is an overview of basic legal standards of the EU and the Czech Republic relating to midwifery. As part of this course image of midwives will be discussed.
Students completing the event will: - know the historical development of the field of midwifery and midwifery, nursing and medicine - understand current problems disciplines - gain an overview of the legislation relating to midwifery and nurse - provide an overview of the development of education and training in contemporary fields
