Course content
|
Introduction to paediatric palliative care - definition + inclusion of perinatal palliative care in the context of paediatric palliative care. Description of categories and groups. Ethical and legal issues. Parent care - stillbirth, early perinatal loss, diagnosis of life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in the foetus and newborn. Neonatal palliative care. Delivery of a baby at the border of viability. Communication, breaking bad news in the context of perinatal and paediatric palliative care. Limitations of care, modalities and options, DNR, DNI, legal framework of advanced directives. Department of chronic resuscitation. Children hospice care. Bereavement, care for a family after loss. Self-care.

Learning outcomes

Introduction to paediatric and perinatal palliative care in the context of midwifery practice.
After completiion, students will be familiar with the issues of pediatric and perinatal palliative care in connection with the midwifery profession.
