Course content
|
Lectures: Distribution of childhood characteristics of each period, the particularities of care. The growth and development of the child (somatic and psychomotor). Nutrition and the importance of breast feeding. Newborn: physiological (adaptation, principles of treatment and care), pathological (immature baby with low birth weight). Seminars: Respiratory diseases: inflammations of the upper and lower airways, cystic fibrosis. Kidney and urinary tract infection (infection, congenital malformations, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome). Gastrointestinal disease: diarrhea in infants and older children, congenital malformations, malabsorption syndrome. CNS disease: congenital disorders, inflammatory diseases of the brain and meninges, cerebral palsy, brain dysfunction. Diabetes mellitus - principles of care, self-monitoring, principles of insulin treatment, diet regime. Diseases of the circulatory system. Exercise: The exercises are focused on comprehensive pediatric needs assessment in children of different ages. Practicing nursing process, its phases (definition of nursing problems, specialized nursing care plan) in scenarios in children with respiratory diseases, digestive tract, urinary tract, nervous system, etc. Working in a clinical setting with medical documentation.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. It is conceived as a theoretical-practical unit with emphasis on the latest findings from clinical pediatrics. It introduces students to the development of healthy and sick child with regard to their individual needs and level of education attained psychomotor development in different ages. It provides a set of information on disease prevention, on diseases of childhood across the spectrum. Emphasis is placed on the differences of individual needs and way of satisfying them, to educate children. Aware of the importance and nature of preventive measures in pediatrics, including screening programs. It points out the differences of multidisciplinary care in outpatient, day or residential care, including care for children under 3 years of age in collective care facilities.
Student is able to - describe the characteristics of childhood illnesses and children of different ages - learn the basics of a needs assessment in children of different ages in relation to their health - diagnose the needs of children of different ages in relation to their health - to plan, implement and evaluate the effect of nursing care for children of different ages - documenting the various phases of the nursing process in pediatric care
