Course content
Nursing as a branch and its competencies, nursing process, theory of human needs and NANDA taxonomies of nursing issues, nursing diagnostics, management of quality and risks. Occupational safety, antisepsis and asepsis in clinical practice, handling of sterile equipment and materials, basic dressing techniques, safe manoeuvring of the patient (partially mobile, immobile), monitoring of physiological functions. Enema, urinary catheterization, puncture, probing of the gastrointestinal tract, first aid.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed both as theoretical and practical. It includes chapters of nursing such as nursing process, health education, quality management in nursing etc. In the practical level it teaches nursing activities and actions such as administration of drugs, injections and infusions, the care for hydratation, excretion, nutrition of patients, wound dressing, probing of the gastrointestinal tract etc. Students will acquire knowledge and skills important for ensuring patient care in radiological units. The aim is to prepare the student for a three-week nursing practice at standard hospital wards i.e. internal/surgical wards. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
On completion of the course students will: know the nursing process; know the principles of safe and high-quality nursing care; manage selected nursing procedure and be prepared for the communication with the patient and the attending staff.
