Course content

The course teaches students to understand the concept of basal stimulation, its historical development, basis, conceptual segments and application of individual forms of basal stimulation in practice and their implementation into the nursing process. Students understand that targeted and systematic patient's stimulation (according to the biographic anamnesis) with consciousness and perception disorders brings support to his/her physical and mental integrity. Students practice individual techniques of basal stimulation, their possible adaptation to the condition and the needs of the patient. They understand the process of the reciprocal intensive interaction with the patient (also unconscious) who is an equal partner and he/she decides about the acceptance or refusal of the stimulation.

Students will be familiar with the concept of basal stimulation and its contribution to the nursing practice; they will be able to work with biographic anamnesis and effectively integrate the elements of basal stimulation into the nursing care plan according to the patient's condition; they will be able to carry out basic techniques of basal stimulation, to identify the patient's reactions to the stimulation and to respond to it adequately.
