Course content
Introduction to applied management. Terminology apparatus. Health care management. Nursing management, management of nursing -care. Significance of management, structure of managerial posts in an organization, managerial skills. System approach in management. Ethics in management. Ethical decision-making tree. What influences contemporary management - internal and external factors. Prognoses of further development. Management of Information resources management - options for data acquisition and their processing into information, scientific method - way of work and its use in management work. Planning in nursing, nursing practice, the principle and sense of planning, planning procedure, planning process. Prognostic techniques - statistical techniques, the Delphi technique. Strategic analyses, force field analysis, cause and effect analysis. Strategic planning - defining an organization's vision. Organizing - formal and informal organizational structures, problems with organizational levels, organizational charts of the nursing section in health care facilities. Organization of the nursing sector in an organization, forming creative teams. Group dynamics. Communication in management. - principles of effective communication, organizing meetings. Human resources management - explaining the terms effectiveness, efficiency, productivity in human resources, the tasks of personal management, issues related to recruiting and selecting new employees, methods for seeking internal and external resources, performance evaluation, reward management, employee relations and trade unions and other organizations, managers' power, required activities and results, loyalty to the organization, process of education in an organization and options for professional growth. Management - human factors in management, manager's role and his position in the working group, teamwork techniques, the impact of social relations in a group on work performance and productivity. Team work.

Learning outcomes
Students are taught how to identify and understand the dynamics of changes in society as well as the organization and the field, they are introduced to the system approach, to established methods of problem-solving and to the issues of applied management; they are prepared for the tasks encountered in the organizations in which they will participate such as quality management - creation of standards, preparation of audit and its assessment, public relations, personal time management, understanding of the tasks, performance and responsibilities of managers within an organization, effective performance in a team environment etc.
On completion of the course, students will be capable of: explaining the increasing importance of health care management in the area of nursing; of applying the basic principles and methods of management in everyday nursing practice of a registered nurse; of leadership of a nursing team, appreciating the importance of management evaluation and control; of implementing all management functions as part of the registered nurse competence; of identifying the policy of the workplace and choosing a suitable strategy for working with a team; of properly using and applying motivational management techniques and strategies of work; of implementing quality and risk management in the area of nursing care.
