Course content
The main topics (blocks) of teaching: - Basic ethical concepts, theories, methods and principles. - The basis of morality, conscience, dignity of man, respect for life, holism. - Historical roots of medical ethics (Hippocrates, religious traditions). - Ethics in health care. Code of ethics for non-medical professionals. - Ethics in laboratory and clinical research (Declaration of Helsinki, Nuremberg Code). - Ethics committees. - Ethics and law - the relationship between legal and ethical standards. Legal standards relating to ethics Health care. Duty of confidentiality, right to information, informed consent. Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine. - Ethical aspects of communication, ethical principles of health professionals' dealings with patients. - Ethical issues at the beginning of life (issues of assisted reproduction, abortion, baby boxes, foster care, adoption, organizations dealing with the care of abandoned children) - Ethical issues of the elderly (access to the elderly generation, basic human rights, respect for the elderly) - Ethical issues of the end of life (dying and death, ethics in the care of the dying, issues of euthanasia).

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on basic ethical issues in the practice of the non-medical health profession. It introduces students to basic ethical principles, codes of ethics, important principles of behaviour in the relationship between health care professional and patient. It will introduce students to legislation, rights and obligations of patients and health professionals. The aim is to understand the basic ethical principles in health care, to become familiar with ethical and legal standards, to know the basics of the code of ethics for non-medical health care professionals.
Working with text and ability to discuss in a team.
Prerequisites
Admission to study at the university.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Active participation of students in seminars and lectures, credit test.
