Topics for lectures: 1.Health and its social value. 2.Health condition of population in the Czech Republic 3.Changes in the health status during centuries; social impact of diseases. 4.The main determinants of health, possibilities of their influences, quality of life in elderly. 5.Prevention, health insurance in the Czech Republic. 6.WHO strategic programs 7.The position of the Public Health in the 21st century, new challenges, new tasks. 8.Public Health as the system. Health institutions, health care providers, education.

Learning outcomes
The course explains the history and present of health policy. It will provide basic information on the broad concept of public health, its protection and support. Students will learn about the system of public health and healthcare institutions and the main determinants of health and their prevention.
The aim of the course is to provide the Public Health´s basic characteristics. The value of Public Health; the importance of decision making; the outside influence of everyday life.
