* Introduction to developmental psychology, basic concepts and theories of human development, and developmental periodization. General characteristics of developmental stages from the prenatal period to old age. Dysfunctional socialization in childhood, child deprivation, and the issues of abused, neglected, and maltreated children. * Prenatal period. * Neonatal period. * Infancy. * Toddlerhood. * Preschool age. Secure attachment. Physical, cognitive, and emotional development. Psychosomatic problems in preschool children. * Early school age. Physical, cognitive, and emotional development. Psychosomatic problems in school-age children. Behavioural disorders and learning difficulties. * Late school age (puberty). Physical, cognitive, and emotional development. Specific characteristics of puberty and developmental changes associated with this period. * Adolescence. Psychological development, identity formation, independence, and relationships with peers and family. * Adulthood. Early, middle, and late adulthood. Personality development, partner and family relationships, professional development, and life roles. * Old age. Psychological changes in later life, cognitive and emotional development, adaptation to changes associated with ageing, quality of life, and issues related to the end of life.

Learning outcomes
|
The course **Developmental Psychology** provides a systematic overview of human psychological development from the prenatal period through adulthood to the end of life. It focuses on the principles and processes of development, characterizing the state of individual psychological functions at each developmental stage, as well as the specific challenges occurring during particular phases and their practical implications for understanding human behaviour and approaches to individuals. The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit and forms a foundation of professional knowledge and skills for nurses working in paediatric care.
