Course content
After the first semester, students should have reached CEFR level A1. Students will understand basic phrases related to everyday situations, e.g. ordering in a restaurant, arranging accommodation, finding their way around the city, information about themselves and their family, being able to describe where they live, etc. The student can express himself/herself in simple sentences and phrases. They can write down simple information and short texts. The student understands basic information and simple texts. The student can describe the human body and knows basic phrases in physiotherapeutic communication. In the second semester the student will study lessons 6 to 10 from the book Czech Step by Step and vocabulary related to the human body from the book Talking Medicine.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire A1 CEFR level language skills. After the first year, students will understand basic words and phrases in situations that concern them, everyday and student life, ordering in a restaurant, finding their way around the city, shopping, arranging accommodation, filling in a form. The student can write short and simple texts and understand them. Knowledge of human body parts and basic phrases of physiotherapeutic communication is emphasized.
The course focuses on practical mastery of the language. The following methods will be used in teaching Czech: class discussion, listening, roleplay, reading, writing, interpretation, student presentations. Emphasis is placed on the student's self-study during home preparation.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in the lessons is required for successful completion of the course (one absence per semester is allowed, but the student is required to complete the information from the missed lesson.). The student is obliged to inform the teacher of his/her absence. Regular home preparation is required. During the semester the student will take 2 Progress Tests, which must be passed with a minimum of 65 %. The basic limit for passing the Credit test is 65%. After successful completion of the credit test, an oral examination follows.
