Course content
Topics: - philosophical and critical thinking, man, language, and communication of the basic concepts of logic, - philosophical trends (empirism, rationalism, fenomenology, hermeneutics, existentialism) with regard to their use in nursing theory and research, the issue of ethics and morality, bioethics.

Learning outcomes
The subjects objective is to gain knowledge of the philosophical underpinnings applied in nursing in the areas of theory, research and practice. Furthermore, to acquire knowledge of bioethics and nursing ethics and be able to use it for argumentation on particular moral problems and dilemmas. The secondary aim is to develop students' critical thinking. The subject is an introduction to philosophical way of thinking as a foundations of humanities, specifically nursing. It is divided into two basic parts.

Assessment methods and criteria

Preparation of a presentation on one of the course topics. The literature used must include at least two foreign sources dealing with the selected topic. Altogehter, more than 5 literature sources must by used. The student must work with the study materials in Moodle (moodle.upol.cz). Another requirement is obligatory attendance at lectures.
