Annotation: The course is to provide theoretical and practical base for students in terms of investigative methods principles used in physiotherapy with an emphasis on the examination of the musculoskeletal system (eg. goniometry, examination of hypermobility, muscle imbalance, functional tests of the spine, basic movement stereotypes). Topics for seminars and practical lectures: 1. Clinical examinations in rehabilitation, history and examination; 2. Human movement as a function and possibility of motion disorder evaluation, introduction to basic function disorders of the movement system; 3. Principles and basic algorithms of motion examination; 4. Palpation of body landmarks, evaluation of muscle tension, constitution; 5. Parts of the musculoskeletal system, the segmented model of the human body, body planes; 6. Methods of goniometry upper limb part 1; 7. Methods of goniometry upper limb part 2; 8. Methods of goniometry lower limb part 1; 9. Methods of goniometry lower limb part 2; 10. Methods of goniometry trunk, neck, head; 11. Functional tests of the spine; 12. Hypermobility, Testing of local and general hypermobility, Beighton scale; 13. Examination of the muscle imbalance - shortened muscles part 1. 14. Examination of the muscle imbalance - shortened muscles part 2. 15. Examination of the muscle imbalance -weakened muscles.

The aim of the course is to equip students with the basics of clinical examination of musculoskeletal system (focusing on goniometry, muscle testing and hypermobility).
The students will be able to use the acquired knowledge and skills in their future jobs in rehabilitation centres and hospitals.
