Course content
|
Throughout the course the following core topics will be covered: 1) Definition of health psychology; bio-psycho-socio-spiritual unity of a human; emotional, cognitive and behavioural personality components and their relationship with health; salutogenetic approach to health and diseases 2) Health vs. diseases according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and other approaches 3) Personality and health (internal vs. external place of control, coping with load according to individual personality types) 4) Hardiness, sense of coherence, salutogenesis, coping strategies, reactions to extreme load situations according to Kübler-Ross 5) Psychosomatics, behavioural and alternative medicine 6) Stress (mental load and personality vulnerability), burn-out syndrome 7) Relaxation techniques 8) Social material: Human and health in a psychosocial context (buffering model and direct effect on human health model) 9) Assertiveness 10) Physical activity and its effects on human psyche

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce to the students basic theoretical knowledge from the area of health psychology, mental hygiene and other partial areas aimed at health promotion through psychological means. The course also presents some possibilities of practical application of this knowledge, particularly in the areas of recreation and leisure studies, physical education and sports management. Information about this course was translated to English within the project Internationalization of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University, Olomouc, No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0028, co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Government of the Czech Republic.
The student knows basic terminological concepts from the area of health psychology. The student understands the principles and basic theories applied in health psychology. The student is experienced in using selected self-regulation techniques. The student is motivated for further self-education and self-development in this area.
