Course content
|
Teaching of English at A1/A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The students learn to communicate about simple topics (leisure time, travelling, family, etc.) as well as topics relevant to their future professions. At the beginning of each lesson the previous lesson will be briefly revised, followed by a short test. In the first half of the 6th lesson the content of the first five lessons will be revised, in the second half of the lesson the students will take a mid-term test. The last lesson of the semester will be dedicated to general revision of the content of the semester curriculum. As a part of the course the students will actively participate in the International Teaching Week (ITW). Detailed information about the ITW to be communicated during the semester. A significant part of the course is self-study (approximately 30 hours per semester) using electronic study materials available in the Moodle system (https://moodle.upol.cz/) and on the web pages of the INTEFTEK project http://www.inteftek.upol.cz. Topics: 1. Present simple; Wh questions; adverbs of frequency; prepositions of time. 2. Imperatives; prepositions of movement; topic: Asking for directions. 3. There is/there are; prepositions of place; can/can't; play, go, do + sport. 4. Present continuous & present simple; topic: Clothes. 5. Articles; some/any; countable & uncountable nouns; topic: Food. 6. REVISION + MIDTERM TEST. 7. How much/how many; quantifiers; containers; topic: Healthy diet. 8. Past simple: was/were; there was/ there were. 9. Past simple: regular and irregular verbs; topic: My Olympic and Paralympic heroes. 10. Comparative and superlative adjectives; topic: Record breakers. 11. Would like & be going to; topic: Plans for the future. 12. REVISION. There's 13 teaching weeks in a semester. The topics listed above will be completed by a topic of English-speaking foreign teacher realized during International Teaching Week (ITW).

Learning outcomes
|
This course was prepared and is implemented within the following project: Internationalization of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University, Olomouc CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0028 (INTEFTEK). The aim of the course is to develop all four language competences in English: reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course develops the students' abilities to use English as a means of communication in the context of various life situations and provides a basis for the application of acquired language skills and their further development in a follow-up course KSK/EFL2.
Upon completion of the course the level of language competences of the student corresponds to A1/A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. By completing the course the student has met the requirement for enrolment in English as a Foreign Language: Level 2 (KSK/EFL2).

Prerequisites
|
Minimum knowledge of English at A1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. To verify the level the student is obliged to take a placement test in the Moodle system. To access the placement test the student must first enrol in the FTK/PTEST course, after that the test will be accessible in the Moodle system. The course is primarily designed for FTK UP students. Students from other Faculties can apply for enrolment in the course only after STAG is closed if allowed by the group/course capacity.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Analysis of linguistic, Didactic Test
1. Active participation in lessons and ITW. 2. Fulfillment of tasks given by the lecturer. 3. At least 70% from all the tasks throughout the semester (short tests, midterm test, ITW reflection) and a credit test. Absence from class results in 0% from a respective short test. The first date of the credit test to be scheduled during the week following the last teaching week. Other dates to be scheduled during the examination period. 4. Compulsory study materials (including vocabulary) are available in Moodle on https://moodle.upol.cz/ in EFL1 section. Each group will receive a unique access password. If you don't have an account on this platform, you first have to register.
