Course content
|
Teaching of English at A1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (see http://inteftek.upol.cz/images/download/SERR_urovne.pdf). The students learn to communicate about simple general topics (interests, friends, weather, school, shopping, etc.), their basic reference material is New English File: Beginner (Student?s Book + Work Book) purchased for the KSK/EFL01 course. At the beginning of each lesson the previous lesson will be briefly revised, followed by a short test. In the first half of the 6th lesson the content of the first five lessons will be revised, in the second half of the lesson the students will take a mid-term test. The last lesson of the semester will be dedicated to general revision of the content of the semester curriculum. During the course, the students will be invited to participate in the International Teaching Week (ITW). Detailed information about the ITW to be communicated during the semester. A significant part of the course is self-study (approximately 30 hours per semester) using electronic study materials available in the Moodle system (http://jazyky.ftk.upol.cz) and on the web pages of the INTEFTEK project http://www.inteftek.upol.cz. Topics: 1. Revision of EFL01 2. Can/can't, topic: Permission and possibility 3. Saying and understanding prices, Buying, topic: Money 4. Past simple BE (positive, negative, interrogative), Prepositions (in, at, on) 5. Past simple - irregular verbs 6. REVISION, MIDTERM TEST 7. Past simple - regular verbs, Ordinal numbers, Months, topic: Saying the date 8. There is/There are, There was/There were, Prepositions (in, on, under), topic: Hotels 9. Revision of the past simple, Object pronouns, topic: Places 10. Like+verb+ -ing, topic: Asking for, giving opinions 11. Imperatives, Prepositions of place, topic: Asking for and giving directions 12. REVISION There are 13 teaching weeks in the semester. There's International Teaching Week (ITW) in which lessons are taught by professionals from abroad.

Learning outcomes
|
This course was prepared and is implemented within the following project: Internationalization of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University, Olomouc CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0028 (INTEFTEK). The aim of the course is to develop all four language competences in English - reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course develops the students? abilities to use English as a means of communication in the context of various life situations and provides a basis for the application of acquired language skills and their further development in a follow-up course KSK/EFL1.
Upon completion of the course the level of language competences of the student corresponds to A1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, see http://www.inteftek.upol.cz/images/download/SERR_sebehodnoceni.pdf. By completing the course the student has met the requirement for enrolment in English: Level 1 (KSK/EFL1).

Successful completion of KSK/EFL01.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Analysis of linguistic, Didactic Test
Active 80% participation. Average of all tests taken throughout the course (short tests, mid-term test) of at least 60%. Compulsory written assignments in the LMS Unifor system. Comprehensive credit test covering the content of the semester curriculum, minimum achievement 60%. The first date of the credit test to be scheduled during the week following the last teaching week. Other dates to be scheduled during the examination period.
