Obsah předmětu
Topics 1. Take a walk at Neredin Crematorium. Answer these questions. How old do you think you will live? Pretend you are 70 years old, what will your life be like? What needs to change in your life in order to live a long and healthy life? Look at Brochure Living to be 100. Power Point Late Life Adjustments. Assignment: Read Chapter One of Leisure and Aging book. Write a one page summary of this chapter. This book is in library. (Bring to class.) Call your grandmother and interview her. Questions: Age. How would you describe your life at this time? What do you think has helped you to live as long as you have? What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What adaptations have you had to make as an older adult? What advice would you give me to live a long successful life? 2. Discussion of chapter one of leisure and aging. Present findings from research on grandmother. Homework: divide class into four groups each group read one of the chapters on leisure and aging two through five, and report as a group using a power point. 3. Presentation of chapters from book. Exam on first five chapters. Chapter two of dissertation, Leisure literature and older adults. Homework everyone read one chapter in Successful Aging and report in class. Or, through internet, read several articles and report in class. Also answer the question: What is the role of recreation and leisure for older adults. 4. Reports in class on successful aging. 5. Leisure and Aging. Read chapter seven of leisure and aging. 6. Present Mladost research. Chapter eight of leisure and aging. 7. Visit a senior center and present a program together. 8. Student presentation.

Výstupy z učení

1. Student will understand recreation and leisure philosophy and will be able to apply it in the field of recreation and leisure of older adults. This learning oucome also includes understanding of ageing. 2. Student will know how to create a recreation/leisure program for older adults with using learning outcome No. 1. He/she will demonstrate this knowledge through a project of such kind of programme and through its presentation in class. 4. Student will know to write a formula for successful aging. 5. Student will make progress in his/her English reading/writing and communication skills. He will present it through his/her written works based on recommended readings, and through discussions on his/her project and projects of his/her class colleagues.

Assignments 1. Read book Leisure and Aging. This is in the library. Each week hand in a one page typed summary of what you have read. 2. Create your own formula for successful aging based on readings and research. It must have five references. You can use any book or journal article. If this is an internet article it must be based on some academic knowledge. This is something that you are to write. This also must have some reference to recreation and leisure. Minimum 3 pages. 3. Interview five older adults. Discuss survey used, research, and present findings in class. 4. Bonus: Watch some movies about aging in English. Write up one page. 5. Active participation in class, reading of material, and discussion. 6. Design a recreation program for older adults and present in class. 7. Meet with teacher. 8. Personal volunteer project with older adults. 9. Bonus: Go to dancing with older adults at nearby restaurant. Grades: A: Attends class, participates in class, completes homework, and completes assignments in an academic level. B: Comes to most class, completes most homework, and completes assignments in a regular way. C: Comes to class, does some homework. Plagiarism is not tolerated! You can NOT copy from internet or other sources! You can read it, and then put it in your words.
