Course content
- Theoretical principles. Basic terms and definitions, classification of tourism, tourism participants. - Development of tourism in the world. Development of tourism in the Czech Republic. - Current state and prospects of tourism development in the world, Europe and Czech Republic. - Information sources in tourism. - Roles of tourism - economic, cultural, social and environmental. Positive and negative implications of tourism development. - Tourism destinations. Tourism potential - primary, secondary and tertiary. Components of tourism potential. Regionalization of tourism. Tourism regions and areas in the Czech Republic. - Tourism organization in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Learning activities and teaching methods
  • Preparation for the Exam - 25 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
Throughout the course the students will learn about the basic definition and their classification within tourism theory. The students will also learn about the development, current state and prospects of tourism development in the Czech Republic and abroad and with positive as well as negative implications of the development of tourism. The students will have an overview of tourism organization and management. The course also includes work with information sources in tourism.
Upon completion of the course the student: - Can correctly use tourism terminology; - Can critically evaluate tourism implications; - Has an overview of the current problems in the area of tourism development; - Can identify and use information sources.
