Course content
|
Physiology of motor control. Neurophysiology of the postural and movement systems in relation to balance training. Rehabilitation aids used in balance training. The use of balance training to influence muscle tone, muscle strength, joint mobility, coordination, balance reactions, and stabilization. The use of balance training in the prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Indications and contraindications for balance training in selected diagnoses. Instruction and practical training in exercises using balance aids ? gymball, Over-Ball, foam balls, balance boards, Posturomed, Propriofoot, and other aids; combinations of different balance aids.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to introduce students to the principles of balance and sensorimotor training, assessment procedures for balance disorders, and the use of various types of unstable surfaces and other therapeutic aids in kinesiotherapy. Students will understand the basic mechanisms of postural control, be able to assess balance disorders using selected examination methods, and select and apply appropriate balance exercises and sensorimotor techniques with regard to the patient?s functional status and therapeutic goals.
The student applies the acquired knowledge in clinical practice. The student is able to assess balance disorders using selected examination methods, choose an appropriate balance and sensorimotor training approach, and apply it correctly in practice using various types of unstable surfaces and other therapeutic aids, with regard to the patient?s functional status and therapeutic goals.

Prerequisites
|
Prerequisites for the course include basic knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, physiology, neurophysiology, and the principles of motor control.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Dialog, Written exam
100% attendance at practical classes and successful completion of the course credit in the form of a practical presentation of an exercise session using balance training equipment.
