Course content
Basic concepts: gender, gender role, gender identity, sexual orientation, transgender, intersex. Biological approaches toward gender and sexual orientation. Psychodynamic theories of gender identity and sexual orientation. Feminism (first, second and third wawe). History of LGBT human-rights movement. Homophobia (homonegativism), heterosexism, heteronormativity. Coming out process. Transsexuality and transgender. Same-sex relations and gender in different cultures. Same-sex parenting. Discrimination based on gender, gender identity and sexual orientation as psychological, social and legal phenomenon.

Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
  • Attendace - 4 hours per semester
  • Semestral Work - 21 hours per semester
  • Preparation for the Exam - 50 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
knowledge of contemporary theories of gender and sexual orientation and their practical applications in psychology
knowledge of basic questions of sexual orientation and gender identity, for psychologist also competence resolve common problems in psychological practice

previous studies of psychology of personality, social psychology and clinical psychology are advance

seminary work (at least 2 pages in Czech, Slovak, Polish or English) oral exam: 1. basic concepts: gender, gender role, gender identity, sexual orientation, transgender, intersex 2. biological approaches 3. psychodynamic theories 4. feminism 5. history of LGBT human-rights movement 6. homophobia (homonegativism), heterosexism, heteronormativity 7. coming out 8. transsexuality, transgender, and gender in different cultures 9. same-sex parenting 10. discrimination based on gender, gender identity and sexual orientation
