Course content
|
The one-semester course of Humanistic and Transpersonal Psychology should contribute to improving students´ abilities to identify strong points of psychological theories and psychotherapeutic practice as their philosophical and spiritual prerequisites. This way, students will be capable of better understanding of human nature, in general. The intention will be implemented via a presentation of the phenomenological methods by Brentan, Husserl and Heidegger, as well as via characterizing the decisive motives of the existential philosophy and linked-up existential psychotherapy presented by J.-P: Sartre, R. May or I.D. Yalom. The lectures will offer a detailed commentary on daseinsanalytic psychotherapy and its comparison with other protagonists of analytical and depth psychology: S. Freud and C.G. Jung. Apart from the description of the psychotherapeutic concept of a humanistic type, according to A.H. Maslow and C.G. Rogers or E. Fromm, listeners can also learn about the thinking of a logotherapeutist, V.E. Frankl, a Jewish thinker, M. Buber, or a gestalt therapist, F. Perls. In addition, the course will discuss transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy, established jointly by Stanislav Grof and Abraham Maslow. The last topic will compare a psychotherapeutic approach grounded in western ideological backgrounds and the concept of a man as understood in yoga, Buddhism or Taoism.

Learning outcomes
|
In the course students get acquainted with the application of philosophical theories in the sphere of psychology and psychotherapy. To be specific, phenomenology and existentialism were chosen as decisive for the humanistic psychology. The second aim is to describe basic characteristics of transpersonal psychology which evolved as a branch of humanistic psychology.
Basic familiarity with psychological approaches in daseinsanalysis, logotherapy and psychotherapy.

|
Seminar Work
A seminar work dealing with phenomenology, humanistic or transpersonal psychology at the extent of 5 - 7 pages and its presentation in the seminar, including a discussion
