The course Community Translation: Context and Techniques provides an overview of the relevant processual actions that are necessary to carry out translation in the context of the public service, administration and communication of the government with the non-Dutch-speaking citizen. At the beginning, this course provides an insight into the basic concepts of community translation, especially in view of the unclear demarcation of this concept in the theory of translation science. The definition of this concept is problematic when comparing the context of community translation and the position of the translator in this sector in the Low Countries and Central Europe. The aim of the course is to help students understand the position of the translator and the practical implementation of translation services in this sector. That is why the attention is focused on the types and genres of text we encounter in community translation, we look at the translation process step by step, from accepting the assignment via an analysis of the text to be translated, to the production of the translation and the evaluation of its quality. An essential role in this process is of course played by the translator's tools.
