Course content
|
week 1) Introduction - discussing the potential of songs for the development of the language and cultural competence in the target language by advanced students, students' own experience with learning through songs (of the teacher's and students' own choice), setting up a plan of presentations in combination with the continuous research through questionnaires concerning the functioning of songs in the foreign language teaching; week 2-4) Model presentations concerning the structural and circular approach towards songs as a source of authentic language material for the advanced students; week 5-12) Presentations of the songs of students' choice; week 13) Wrapping up the course activities.

Learning outcomes
|
During this course deal the students in a systematic way with Dutch and Flamish songs originating in the recent decades. In the first third of the course presents the teacher the model songs and approaches how they can be exploited for the purposes of maintaining and increasing the language competence in the target language, as well as the students' motivation at the advanced level. As the basic approach to the systematic exploitations of songs in FLT serves the Nederlied-approach. In the next part the students prepare under the supervision of the teacher the presentations of the songs of their choice. However, these songs have to fulfill the criteria concerning the diversity and balance of their content and style, so that they represent both parts of the Dutch speaking area (the Netherlands, Belgium). Special attention is being paid to further extending of the students range of vocabulary and to applying the grammar rule in the practice, as well as to understanding the background (society, period) of the song and as such deepening the cultural knowledge of the students.
Further building up Dutch vocabulary, oral and writing communicative skills in Dutch.

Knowledge and skills on the target level B2 - CEFR are required.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Didactic Test
Being present at the lessons, active participation in the educational activities, carrying out the homework tasks systematically, presenting a song of one's own choice, final test.
