Course content
The course discusses the main features of modern Dutch and Flemish literature from 1945 to the present. The whole period consists of about three stages: (a) the first postwar period until the 1960s; (b) the period from the 1970s to the end of the millennium and (c) the beginning of the 21st century. Course harmonogram: Week 1) Main period 1940-to date, overview; Week 2) World War II; Week 3) "littérature noire" and existentialism; Week 4) Experimental Poetry of the "Fifties"; Week 5) The "Sixties" between avant-garde and neorealism; Week 6) The Wild 60s; Week 7) Engagement, secularization and feminist literature in the 1960s and 1970s; Week 8) Narrators of the generation of "Seventies" and a return to conventional forms in poetry; Week 9) "Academism" and Post Modernism; Week 10) "Generation Nix"; Week 11) "non-fiction", travel literature and new historism; 12th week) new trends in the new millennium; Week 13) Course summary. Note: For practical reasons, the teacher teaches the course in 6 larger blocks.

Learning outcomes
The course discusses the main features of modern Dutch and Flemish literature from 1945 to the present. The whole period consists of about three stages: (a) the first postwar period until the 1960s; (b) the period from the 1970s to the end of the millennium and (c) the beginning of the 21st century. The aim of the course is to gain knowledge and understanding of the Dutch and Flemish literary canon.
Improving and acquiring knowledge from modern Dutch and Flemish literature.
Prerequisites
Knowledge from the introductory course of Dutch and Flemish literature of the first year and from the previous course of the winter semester of the third year.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

Active participation in lessons. Reading and analysis of 5 works of the discussed period. Homework and preparation of papers.
