Course content
|
The lectures provide the students not only with specialist literature and with main instrument of the netherlandistics, but also with the current state of the netherlandistics as a scientific discipline. An overview of the basic terms concerning the linguistic terminology is provided on the background of the specialist literature and of the Dutch language examples. The contents of the following scientific disciplines is provided: 1. Position of the Dutch language in the world, Netherlandistics as a scientific discipline, the Dutch Language Union (de Nederlandse Taalunie) 2. Language functions, language development. Linguistics and linguistic disciplines, development of linguistics in the pre-scientific period, writing system. 3. Development of linguistics in the 19th century, genetic classification of languages, Dutch within Indo-European and Germanic languages. 4. Development of linguistics in the 1st half of the 20th century, linguistic typology, typology of the Dutch language. 5. Development of linguistics in the 2nd half of the 20th century, generative grammar. 6. Periodization of the history of the Dutch language, codification of the standard language. Grammar handbooks, linguistic journals and other sources of information. 7. Introduction to morphology of Dutch language (definition of basic terms, word formation, flexion, parts of speech). 8. Introduction to the syntax of Dutch language (definition of basic terms, sentence elements, word order). 9. Introduction to lexicology and lexicography (basic terms, description of vocabulary, dictionaries). 10. Dutch language in contact with other languages. Corpus linguistics and corpora of the Dutch language. 11. Dialects of Dutch language. Varieties of the contemporary Dutch language, sociolinguistics. 12. Pragmatic aspects of communication, pragmalinguistics. Psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics. 13. Recapitulation.

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims at introducing the students to the field of studying a foreign language. The lectures deal on one hand with the specialist literature and with the most important instruments within the field of the netherlandistics, on the other hand with the contemporary state of this field of study. Basic terms of linguistic terminology and basic content of separate linguistic disciplines are presented on the background of specialist literature and of examples from the Dutch language. Students will also be presented with a brief overview of the language development, with genetic and typological classification of languages (with special attention being paid to the Dutch language) and with development of linguistics and of its methods.
The students are familiar with basic linguistic terminology and specialist literature from the field of the netherlandistics. They are also familiar with the development of the netherlandistics as a scientific discipline. They are also able to distinguish various linguistic disciplines and to briefly classify the Dutch language from the genetic and typological points of view.

Prerequisites
|
No knowledge of the Dutch language is required, the course is being taught in the Czech language.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Didactic Test
Presentation of a chosen topic, carrying out homework tasks systematically, max. 2 absences, tests, passing the final test (min. 60 %).
