Course content
The course covers the following topics: 1.The Kingdom of the Netherlands - physical and political geography, official languages, the provinces. 2. The Netherlands - state system, government and politics. 3. The Netherlands - the royal family, state symbols and holidays. 4. Dutch products and companies, economic situation of the Netherlands. 5. Stereotypes about the Netherlands and the Nederlanders, coexistence of Netherlanders with water. 6.Tolerance in the Netherlands as a cultural phenomenon, multicultural society. 7. Traditional and modern architecture in the Netherlands. 8. Dutch painting and culture, museums

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
The lectures provide an overview of institutions, culture and geography of the Dutch-speaking language area, in the winter semester mainly focusing on the Netherlands. Attention is paid not only to physical and political geography, but also to cultural realities and economic situation. Current social events in the Dutch-speaking area are also monitored during the semester. During the lessons, which are mostly in Czech, examples from the recommended study literature and various videos are used. Students prepare powerpoint presentations on the chosen topic and make them available on the moodle electronic learning platform. At the end of the semester, basic knowledge is tested by means of a written didactic test, which includes, among other things, a blind map and examples of the most famous works of art.
Get awareness of contemporary Dutch society, acquisition of key knowledge of geography, culture, social and political events with a focus on the Kingdom of the Netherlands, orientation on map. Students also become familiar with the most important representatives of Dutch painting.
Prerequisites
The knowledge of Dutch is not expected, the course is mainly in Czech. Passing the course History of the Netherlands, eventually Geography of the Netherlands is an advantage.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Didactic Test

Oral presentation on any topic discussed by using technical equipment (Power-Point, Moodle), carrying out homework tasks systematically, max. 2 absences. Written test examining the acquisition of knowledge of the discussed issues must be passed at a minimum of 70%.
