Course Content: 1. Introductory session, overview of the course syllabus 2. How a parliamentary reporter works. Parliamentary and Senate corridors, reporting from the government. Off-the-record information and how to handle it. Political jargon and translating it into plain language. 3. Regional politics, the growing influence of the regions. Big politics doesn't just happen in parliament, but wherever large sums of money are distributed. 4. Politicians as public figures and their right to privacy. How to get past the "No comment" response. 5. Political analysis. How to decipher political hints and ambiguous statements. 6. Preparing political commentaries and op-eds. 7. Hyperbole and humor in political commentary 8. Press conference 9. Fieldworkreporting 10. Specifics of election coverage 11. The media landscape in political journalism 12. Political journalism in the Czech mediapresentation 13. Final discussion, evaluation of one's own work

The course is designed for students who are interested in news and current affairs in the sphere of practical governmental, parliamentary and party politics. The methodological part deals: - A simple concept of practical politics and typical genres of political news and current affairs, particularly interview; - Evaluation of nationwide newspapers, magazines and TV besedách and political debates. Target skill: create your own communications and their joint assessment in teaching.
Students will acquire practical and professional competences and routines that anable them to work independently in given area and the students will be prepared for the practical part of the final examination. |
