Course content
01. The mutual relations between language and culture. Language as a mirror of culture and means of constructing the image of the world. 02. The concept of cultural shock and its symptoms. 03. Present-day Ukraine viewed from the prism of language and culture. Bilinguism in Ukraine. 04. The substandard sociolect of Surzhyk. 05. Language as an instrument of state policy towards its subjects. 06. Means of mass communication. Advertisement. 07. Political correctness in the international political and business communication. 08. Etnostereotypes and taboo in international communication as a source of misunderstanding between cultures. 09. Specific features of culture of the Ukrainian speaking world as compared to other cultures. 10. Specific features of business communication. Communication in Czech and Ukrainian companies. 11. Web portals as means of communication. Pros and cons. 12. Communicative etiquette. Emoticons and their system of signs. 13. Credit session.

Learning outcomes
This course presents the students with the base of social intercultural communication in Ukrainian language environment. Students will acquire basic intercultural skills and awareness of the different communicative styles, non-verbal communication and other aspects of intercultural communication. The seminar is focused on practical application of theoretical knowledge about the current communicative situation in Ukraine by exercising oral and written speech performance, professional internet communication, business dealings and official communicative situations.
Awareness of intercultural communicative situation in Ukraine and broadening the vocabulary from different semantic fields related to social communication.

Completing the course USK 1.
