Course content
01. The structure of communicative act. 02. Participants in communication. Social status and age as a factor in social communication. 03. Recipient and the direction of communication. Content. Channel. 04. Intention and effect of communication. 05. Verbal and non-verbal means of expression. 06. Fixed communicative acts ? written texts and recorded speech. 07. Outline of communicative situation. 08. The role of place and time in communicative situations. 09. Rules of composition of a communicative act as a whole. 10. Syntax, semantics and pragmatics as a base for communication. 11. The border between the form and the content of communication. 12. Pragmatics of communicative act. 13. Credit session.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to present the students with an insight into the theory of social communication which is a scholarly discipline related to sociology, psychology, semiotics, linguistics, aesthetics, history and other disciplines. It deals with the social role of language and its role in professional relations, and also with communicating information in social contact. The theoretical knowledge will be applied in exercises which shall help the students to get prepared for handling with the social roles connected to the social communication in Ukraine in everyday as well as critical situations in professional social communication.
Students will obatin competences as stated in the plan of the lectures.
Prerequisites
A basic or lower intermediate level of Ukrainian language (A1- B1).
