Course content
1. The activity and influence of literary groups. (The New York group.) 2. The 1960s generation. 3. V. Stus, Symonenko, Semenko. 4. Fylypovych, Draikhmara, Krymsky, Pachovsky. 5. Ukrainain features of naturalism. (Demonstrated on particular texts.) 6. O. Honchar and his Sobor 7. L. Kostenko - her neologisms and new approaches. 8. I. Drach. 9. Analysis of the etudes by Kociubynsky and novels by Stefanykov. The features of separate currents. 10. The question of poetic individuality in 20th century. 11. Typology of contemporary poetry. 12. Credit test.

Learning outcomes
This course broadens the knowledge of Ukrainian literature of the 20th century. The literary process was very complicated in the 20th century and it resulted in intellectual changes and new artistic expression in Ukrainian literature. At the same time, this period of chaos and moral inversion was in important creative period (Cherkashenko, Honchar, Zahrebelny, Klen etc.) Special attention is paid to the generation of 1960s and the important changes such as expressionism and impressionism - Kocjubynskyj, Stefanyk. In the end of the seminar we shall revise the development of literature for the state examination. Part of the literary studies is a meeting with contemporary Ukrainian writers who are invited to Olomouc for giving a lecture: J. Andrukhovich, S. Prociuk., Anna Malihon, O. Shynkarenko, M. Layuk, atc.
Students will get familiar with the Ukrainian modernism and postmodernism, its features and prominent figures. Students will also learn how to interpret prosaic and poetic texts and will meet personally the invited Ukrainian writers.
Prerequisites
B2 level of Ukrainian, completing the courses UL1,UL2,UL3

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Attendance, reading, active participation in discussion, knowledge of Ukrainian on B2 level.
