Learning outcomes
This sequence of lectures discusses the Ukrainian literature of the 20th century and informs the students about modernism and last stages of realism viewed from comparative point of view. In modernism the position of art in life is complicated, which results in certain intellectual changes and diversity of artistic expression in Ukrainian literature. We shall compare this situation with European and Czech modernism. This period of chaos and moral inversion was also an important creative period. The complicated situation of the newly formed currents is demonstrated by work of V. Stus, V. Symonenko, Semenko, Fylypovich, M. Rylsky and others.
Students will get familiar with Ukrainian modernism, its features and prominent figures. Students will also learn how to interpret symbolist, futuristic and impressionistic poems.
