Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to present the students with organized information about the evolution trends in the modern Ukrainian language: the new processes in pronunciation and in lexicon. Special attention is paid to the development of present-day Ukrainian lexicon and the analysis of loan words, especially americanisms, and their adaptation to the lexico-grammatical system of Ukrainian language, the derivation processes and their semantic changes. We shall also discuss the jargonisms ? i.e. the slang words used in criminal world, which are entering the everyday speech: we shall analyse the semantic changes and derivation processes. We shall also deal with neologisms and phraseologisms with Ukrainian or foreign origin.
The students will get familiar with the evolution trends in present-day Ukrainian and they will acquire the newest vocabulary.
