Course content
1. Syntagmatic phrase and simple clause. Predication. 2. Simple clause with a non-restrictive sentence constituent. 3. Valency, intention, government, types of predicates and propositions. 4. Types of complex sentence. 5. Semantics of complex sentence. 6. Types of compound sentence. 7. Semantics of compound sentence. 8. Types of complex sentence. Substantive and attributive clause. 9. Types of complex sentence. Adverbial clause. 10. Juxtaposed clauses. 11. Direct speech, indirect speech. 12. Syntactic analysis of a sentence. 13. Final credit test.

Learning outcomes
The second part of the course on Ukrainian syntax presents the students with valency and intention theory of sentence. We shall operate with terms such as formal syntactic pattern of a sentence, semantic structure of sentence (proposition), modification of sentence patterns which result in a simple clause. Special attention is paid to classification of Ukrainian complex sentences and various types of subordinate clauses and the criteria or their classification. We shall constantly compare the Ukrainian syntactical system to the Czech one. During the seminars we shall broaden the knowledge of syntax of Ukrainian complex sentence. We shall apply the confronting method.
Students will understand the system of Ukrainian syntax. Special attention is paid to syntactical analysis of sentences of all types.
Prerequisites
An advanced knowledge of Ukrainian language and grammar. Completing the course Syntax1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam

Regular active attendance, doing the assigned tasks, consulting the recommended literature and preparing grammar exercises Written test on basic types of complex and compound sentences. Knowledge of Ukrainian interpunction. Written credit test on syntactical analysis of a text.
