Course content
|
1.-3. weeks we shall deal with the technical texts concerning cars, domestic appliences, user instruction, information about food and other products. 4.-6. weeks we shall translate websites, select language mutations, key words, and make necessary cultural adaptations. 7.-9. weeks we shall deal with tourism and texts concerning tourism and its development, services and touristic destination in Ukraine. 10.-12. Business correspondence, documents, identification documents and official documents as well as other administrative texts. 13. credit session.

Learning outcomes
|
This course follows up the Translation of Non-Literary Text 1. The course is focused on exercising the basic translation methods (compensation, amplification, deletion) on concrete texts of various functional styles (mainly journalistic and scientific). We shall apply various stages of equivalence and focus on translation of terminology and specific phrases. Attention shall also be paid to word order in the terminological phrases. We shall also stress the importance of extralinguistic factors, which is one of the basic features of functional approach to communication in theory and practice alike. The translatological methods are applied to the translation of technical texts, websites and business correspondence.
Students will learn how to translate accurately a more complex text from Ukrainian into Czech, how to analyse special texts and will perfection their skills to translate accurately.

Prerequisites
|
Basic knowledge of translatolgical methods for translating texts of any genre, complex sentences, phrases and terminology. Experience with translation of various texts. Completing the Translation of Non-Literary Text 1.
