Course content
In LS 2024/2025, 2 block lectures will be organized: Assoc. Iryna Fedorivna Dzhochka 28.3.2025 1. Lexeme-zoonyms in Ukrainian: a linguocultural aspect. 2. Semantic and pragmatic potential of affirmative and negative particles in Ukrainian. 3. Word-forming suffixes as a means of expressing subjective evaluation in Ukrainian. 4. Nouns as expressive means of the function of the indefinite article in Ukrainian. prof. Iryna Olexandrivna Holubovska 11.4.2025 1. Changing paradigms in linguistics in the context of methodological and methodological support for linguistic research. 2. National linguistic worldviews as evidence of the peculiarities of ethnic mentality. 3. Linguistic heritage of Professor Kostyantyn Tyshchenko in an interdisciplinary context. 4. Discursive practices of modern mass media as constructors of the post-truth world.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to present the students with new paradigms of language and culture studies, especially with the modern approaches to language from gender perspective and with methods of current gender studies. Special attention is paid to the origin and development of gender linguistics, its basic terminology and relations between language and culture, social and lingual elements of gender stereotypes and the status of men and women as reflected in language. We shall also focus on concepts such are patriarchy, patriarchal culture, androcentrism vs. sexism of language, gender symmetry and asymmetry in language of various linguistic levels of language, gender stereotype, gender identity. We shall also inspect concepts such as grammatical gender, natural gender and gender from the point of view of language system, socio-linguistics and communication, also the problematic of discrimination of women in language and aspects related to political correctness and its applications in Ukrainian and Czech language. We shall persistently apply the comparative approach.
An ability to understand analytically and critically the linguistic description of gender stereotypes in language and communication.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Ukrainian, at least B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages

Student performance

Participation in both block lectures. Credit is awarded for attendance at the organised lectures on the basis of signing the attendance sheet. 28.3.2025 11.4.2025
