Learning outcomes
|
This theoretical discipline is dedicated to the Ukrainian linguistics of the period stretching from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The aim of the course is to present the students with basic schools and prominent scholars of Ukrainian linguistics from this period. We shall focus on the period of Ukrainization (1920?s), Ukrainian linguistics during Stalinism and Krushev Thaw (1960?s, 1970?s) and the development of Ukrainan linguistics in the Independence period. We shall discuss the modern streams in Ukrainian linguistics existing since the beginning of the new millennium, the questions of norms and codification of present-day Ukrainian language and the language dynamics since the beginning of the new millennium.
Broadening the theoretical knowledge gained during the courses on the system of Ukrainian language and its development. Special attention is paid to the role of Ukrainian linguistics in the development and survival of the Ukrainian language and the works relevant to the Ukrainian linguistics and its influence on Slavic and world linguistics.

Prerequisites
|
An advanced knowledge of Ukrainian language and its norms, basis of historical phonetics, word-formation, lexicology, grammar, syntax and stylistics.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Written exam
Regular attendance, submitting in time the assigned tasks, individual work with scholarly articles and literature in Ukrainian. Writing a paper on one of the topics from the syllabus and oral presentation of the paper. Ability to work with scholarly sources. Credit test.
