Course content
|
Both the lecture and the seminar are focused on more demanding theoretical phenomena of syntax in Russian-Czech and Czech-Russian comparative perspective. In particular, the emphasis is on the different understanding of some syntactic categories in the Russian and Czech grammatical traditions, e.g. the concept and number of clause adjuncts, the concept of word phrases and syntagms, the classification of clauses, etc. 1/ Syntagma and verbal conjunctions. Classification of syntagmas.2/ Problems of defining and classifying subordinate clauses in Russian and Czech.3/ Multiple and repeated clauses.4/ Peculiarities of Russian word order in comparison with English.5/ Semi-predicative constructions and loosely attached clauses.6/ Problems of classification of clauses.7/ False subordinate clauses.
