Course content
Aesthetical perception of world in literature. Aesthetical interpretation of literature. The topic of a literary work. The content and the form. The language. The plot, the story and the composition. The narrator. Forms of depicting a protagonist in literary work. Literary modes. Literary genres. Versology.

Learning outcomes
This course is designed in a way to present the students with the basic terminology and concepts used in literary theory. We shall compare the Czech and Russian terminology, discuss the basic way to analyse fiction and apply the knowledge to selected genres. In the lectures we shall primarily focus on the following topics: Aesthetical perception of world in literature, Aesthetical interpretation of literature, The topic of a literary work, The content and the form, The language, The plot, the story and the composition, The narrator, Forms of depicting a protagonist in literary work, Literary modes, Literary genres, Versology. The students will also get familiar with the literary streams and movements.
Getting familiar with literary terms, schools, approaches and the development of literary theory as a science and its separate disciplines. Students will acquire the knowledge necessary for further literary studies.
Prerequisites
Designed for the 1st year students of Russian philology. Students should have a basic knowledge of Czech literary terminology as expected after graduating from high school. Also a knowledge of Russian language as specified in the entrance examination.
