Course content
1-2. The specific features of interpreting, interpreting compared to translation. 3. Theoretical background for interpreting (classification, tradition, methods). 4-5. Interpreter´s methods, work with text. 6. Work with text in interpreting (the form vs. the content, compression, the gist information, restylization). 7. Stylization and restylization of speech in the target language (synonyms, generalization etc.). 8. The role of memory and associations in reception and reproduction of a text. 9-10. Interpreter´s notation (its principles, types and examples). 11-12. Linguistic and factual preparation for text to be interpreted (lexico-semantic fields, automatic expressions).

Learning outcomes
This theoretical course focuses on the comparison of interpreting and translation. We shall deal with the main characteristics of interpreting, the specifics of the interpreter´s work with text and preparation for the interpreter´s performance. We shall also dedicate a part of our course to practical demonstration of the methods and processes applied in interpreting.
Students will be able to distinguish separate types of interpreting and to comment on the specific features of interpreting and the special preparation for it, they will also be able to apply the methods to some defgree when dealing with a Czech or Russian text.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Russian, at least B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, an ability to follow a specialized lecture held in Russian language.
