Course content
The content of individual seminars will be analysis of published translation and translations made by students. We shall work with literary texts of various genres and from various historical periods.

Learning outcomes
Students will get familiar with the specific features of literary translation. The topics are selected in a way that the seminar will give space to discussion and creative approach to literary translation. As recommended in the Czech translatological tradition, we shall accentuate both the linguistic and extralinguistic approaches. In the first term of this facultative discipline we shall work predominantly with parallel Czech and Russian texts and analyze and evaluate translations by prominent Czech translators. Students will come up with their own solutions to the translatological problems and give each other a feedback.
Students will get familiar with the specific features of literary translation and will acquire the skills to translate literary texts and evaluate creatively the translated texts.
Prerequisites
A practical knowledge of Russian and Czech languages, at least B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, knowledge of basic translatological methods and strategies, a feeling for language.
