Learning outcomes
|
The course of practical translation focuses on complex work with contemporary texts concerning the subject area of justice, crime, and social problems. Students practice a professional approach to the translation process and improve their translation skills. The course is designed to help students acquire professional terminology related to the subject, special attention is paid to fixed collocations and new expressions. It is assumed that students will use not only available sources such as dictionaris and grammar books, but also other materials available on the Russian Internet (especially professional papers, articles, dictionaries, etc.). The course also includes an introduction to working with MT (machine translation) tools. Students will translate mostly into Russian.
Students will acquire the skill to apply the general methods of working with language and Russian and Czech texts while translating them. They will be able to create a glossary on a selected subject and look up necessary information about difficult issues. The students will improve their skills in translating utility texts into a foreign language, learn how to work with basic MT functions (machine translation).

Prerequisites
|
A practical knowledge of Russian, at least B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages and basic knowledge of theory and practice of translation methods.
