Course content
|
Translation of the texts from the field of tourism. The development of tourism in the Czech Republic and in Russia. Travel agencies in cooperation. Current issues of tourism. Domestic tourism in the Czech Republic. Outbound tourism in the Czech Republic. Domestic tourism in Russia. Outbound tourism in Russia. Translation of texts concerning the sights of Russia and the Czech Republic. Practicing basic translation strategies.

Learning outcomes
|
This course is focused on practicing the basic translation methods (compensation, amplification, omission) on specific texts related to tourism industry written in journalistic, advertising and academic style. The terminology in this subject area is characteristic for its dynamic development. Students will focus on the translation of terms and collocations as well as fixed expressions with conjunctions etc. It is important to emphasize the role of the word order in terminological expressions. Students prepare their translations at home, the seminars are devoted to discussions of problematic parts and the best possible equivalents. Students will mainly translate from Czech into Russian.
Students will be able to work with the terminology used in tourism and to translate texts on this subject in both directions.

Prerequisites
|
Russian language command at least at B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, Czech language command at least at C1, knowledge of the linguistic system of modern Russian as required in the curriculum, as well as knowledge of culture and realia.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Seminar Work, Written exam
Attendance, max. 2 absences passing the credit test (translation of terms and an article, both directions) submitting a glossary on a selected subject submitting translated text from Russian to Czech (2 standard pages) and vice versa (2 standard pages)
