Learning outcomes
|
Students will improve and apply their skills to translate modern texts concerning the topic of newly formed professions. We focus both on the content and the stylistic form in finding the equivalents and thus we shall apply our knowledge about the differences between English and Czech. Students also train their professional approach to the translator's practice (finding the materials, comparing dictionaries, consulting an expert, creating a glossary), discuss the selection of an appropriate equivalent and are encouraged to elaborate the acquired material (catalogue, archive, etc.). The aim is not only to master the topic from the point of view of language, but also to get a further insight into the professional skills of a translator. We work with contemporary texts from current journals and internet sources.
Students will acquire the skill to apply the general methods of treating Russian and Czech languages in translating texts (topic: new professions/ services). They will be able to create a glossary to cover a selected topic and look up necessary information about cultural phenomena or difficult issues.

Prerequisites
|
Practical knowledge of Russian, corresponding to at least B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages and basic knowledge of practice and theory of translation methods.
